There is inevitably less to do in the garden during the winter months, which provides an ideal opportunity for planning the next season.

Call me for advice on soft landscaping, new hedge placement or just to find out how best to use my knowledge and passion for gardening to create your suburban oasis.

Lawn care

During the winter months the best advice would be to keep off your lawn whenever possible. In periods of mild weather the grass may well require a slight cut, although the blades should be set high. It is also important to remove leaves from the grass as they restrict light and air circulation.

Hedge maintenance

Depending on the conditions, the winter period is an ideal time to plant bare-rooted plants while in their period of dormancy. If you are keen to create a new hedge in your garden, contact me to discuss the most suitable species for your needs and location.

My hedge planting service ensures the ground is thoroughly prepared and that each plant has the essential ingredients it needs for successful growth.

Border management

Whether you have a well-tended garden or have just moved house and inherited an overgrown wilderness, mid winter (January) is an ideal time to cut back many shrubs, deciduous hedges, climbers and perennials. It is also an ideal time to plan and prepare new beds and borders, allowing the soil plenty of time to settle before planting can begin, sometime during March or April.

I provide free estimates so if you are unsure of what to do or where to begin, call me.
